Good business plans start with an executive summary and then addresses products and services, marketing, and financing. It will also include a detailed budget and the reason they want to borrow or attract outside capital. A cash flow projection is always included in a business plan. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are sometimes included.

Examples include maintaining backup servers to prevent data loss, cross-training staff to avoid workflow bottlenecks, and diversifying suppliers to ensure supply chain reliance. The intention is to protect against unexpected, costly slowdowns or stoppages in operations.
